Samsung may incorporate Qi2 technology into the Galaxy S25 after all.
According to the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) (via Mishaal Rahman), Android manufacturers will accelerate its implementation of the Qi2 standard โ pronounced โchee two,โ by 2025.
Despite the fact that the Qi2 standard was introduced in early 2023, just one Android smartphone, the HMD Skyline, is completely compatible. It allows for more effective wireless charging and has magnetic locking support to guarantee correct alignment of the device and accessories. This is accomplished by attaching a ring of magnets to the phone.
The iPhone 12 and subsequent versions use the patented MagSafe technology, which uses a series of magnets to align smartphones with chargers and latch on to peripherals. Qi is a worldwide wireless charging standard created by the WPC and based on MagSafe.
There have been contradictory rumours regarding whether the Galaxy S25 series would support Qi2, with some leakers claiming that it will only be supported via cases rather than natively.
According to an accessory leak, not all official cases will have magnets, implying that Qi2 would not be integrated directly into the phone. According to one source, the phone would allow wireless charging speeds of up to 25W. The Qi2 standard allows phones to be charged at 15W, fuelling speculation that Qi2 will not be implemented into the Galaxy S25.
A workaround could not be ruled out, and given that the WPC has said that many Android phones would support Qi2, we are tempted to assume that the Galaxy S25 will contain the necessary hardware. More crucially, Samsung has confirmed that certain of its Galaxy smartphones would support Qi2 this year, however the company has not stated whether this includes the Galaxy S25.
- The amazing Qi2 growth story will continue until 2025. In 2025, you may anticipate Android smartphones from Samsung to support Qi2.
Google is another manufacturer to join the Qi2 charging bandwagon this year. Google will also play an important role in developing the Qi v2.2 standard.
- Google is dedicated to advancing the Qi2 wireless charging standard and growing its use in Android handsets and other devices. Google is contributing to this aim by driving the development of the forthcoming Qi v2.2 standard, which includes Googleโs contribution of high-power wireless charging technology to WPC.
